This stage goes through Urgell and la Segarra. The landscape in these areas has certain transitional traits between coastal and continental typical of the inland peninsular regions. This area makes up the eastern part of the Plana de Ponent: Urgell stretches from the Sierra de Montclar, in the north to the Sierra del Tallat, to the southeast. Part of the county is irrigated by water from the great 19th century hydrological project of the Urgell canal. In la Segarra, the route crosses the river valleys of the Corb, Ondara, Sió and the Llobregós rivers. During the middle ages these counties formed part of the extensive frontier dividing the Christian and Islamic worlds, and this explains the abundance of castles and fortress towns...
