This stage takes in the comarcas of La Noguera and Segrià, firstly travelling along the banks of the river Segre as far as Balaguer and then jumping to the Noguera Ribagorçana river basin across the formerly arid steppelike plains, now irrigated by numerous canals and irrigation systems. The place names of the towns reveal the areas Arabic past, and the air is filled with a sense that the ancient al-Andalus culture, which survived here for over three centuries, still lives on. Far less evident and unknown, are the vestiges of the first historical roots of Catalonia, the Iberians, among which, the llergete people, who once inhabited these lands, were one of the most representative groups.
